Porter Team Member


The Porter is responsible for the overall cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and facility to ensure strict adherence to proper sanitation standards. Additionally, the Porter is required to handle multiple daily responsibilities, display an ability and willingness to take direction, and work in a team environment. This position requires exemplary organizational skills and multitasking.

• Follow all food safety standards
• Clean and maintain equipment and work areas according to in-house, local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines regarding safety and sanitation
• Ensure assigned workstation has the proper level of par stocks and supplies for the day’s operation
• Ensure regular sanitation, equipment handling chemical usage, and safety procedures
• Responsible for the cleaning of the entire kitchen, including food service carts, walk-in coolers, freezers, the Chef’s office, and employee restrooms
• Ensure proper sanitation methods are used in all warewashing procedures and that established standards of kitchen sanitation are maintained
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the sales office
• Perform the tasks required for washing pots, pans, and other equipment which must be washed by hand
• Operate electric machines like dishwashers, sanitizers, lifts, and grease traps – including all equipment and cleaning tasks – in a safe and efficient manner
• Maintain the dish machine and keep inside parts clean (jets, arms, filters) to ensure satisfactory results of warewashing
• Perform routine daily maintenance in the kitchen according to daily list; assist with deep cleaning schedule
• Remove all garbage, boxes, etc. from the main kitchen areas as necessary; sort and remove recycling and garbage
• Maintain food and beverage service equipment in an organized manner, including but not limited to sorting and storing silverware, dishes, equipment, and smallwares
• Report any hazardous conditions or broken equipment to the Operations Director

Essential Functions:

• The ability to speak, understand, read, and write in English
• Prior experience in warehouse systems
• Attention to detail
• Team-oriented
• Good communicator: Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instruction
• Spanish language proficiency a plus
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• The ability to work independently or as part of a team
• The ability to lift at least 30 pounds on a regular basis
• The ability to bend, stoop, stand, and perform extensive walking for 8-10 hours a day
• Proficient in kitchen tool use
• Organized approach to projects
• Able to take and give direction
• Able to inspire others to be creative and work hard; a morale builder
• Adaptable in a fast-paced and challenging work environment
• Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and variable schedule, per the needs of the business
• Flexible to work long hours as needed

Experience / Qualifications:

• 1+ years’ experience in a Porter role in catering or similar business
• Proficient in a variety of technology systems, especially Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel

Salary Range: $18 - $20/hourly
